10.6.3. Check of details

Details of the wheel cylinder

1 – a protective cap;
2 – the piston;
3 – a sealant;
4 – the case of the wheel cylinder;
5 – spring cups;
6 – the union of release of air;
7 – a spring;


1. For check wheel cylinders disassemble: remove protective caps 1 (fig. of the Detail of the wheel cylinder see) and pistons 2, take out уплотнители 3, basic cups 5 and a spring 7, then turn out the union 6 releases of air.
2. Check up cleanliness of working surfaces of the cylinder and pistons.
3. Surfaces should be absolutely smooth, without рисок and roughnesses that there was no leak of a liquid and premature deterioration of pistons and sealants.
4. Defects on a cylinder mirror eliminate grinding in or polishing. However the increase in internal diameter of the cylinder is not supposed.
5. Check up elasticity of a spring. Its length a free condition should be 34 mm, under loading 35±2 Н (3,5±0,2 кгс) – 17,8 mm. If necessary replace it.
6. Replace уплотнители new.
7. Check up also, whether protective caps of the cylinder are damaged, if necessary replace their new.
8. Before assemblage plentifully grease all details with a brake liquid. In the sequence specified in fig. fig. of the Detail of the wheel cylinder, establish details in the case of the cylinder without effort not to damage rubbing surfaces.
9. Establish protective caps.
10. Operating with both hands, check up moving of pistons which should be smooth, without jammings.


1. Attentively check up, whether is not present on колодках damages or deformations.
2. Check up elasticity of coupling springs both top, and bottom; if necessary replace their new. Springs should not have residual deformations at a stretching effort 343 Н (35 кгс) the bottom springs and 412 Н (42 кгс) – top.
3. Check up cleanliness of overlays if the dirt or traces of greasing are found out, overlays carefully clear a metal brush and wash out uajt-spiritom, besides, check up, whether there is no leak of greasing or oil in a drum; malfunctions eliminate.
4. Колодки replace new if the thickness of overlays became less than 1,5-2 mm.


1. Examine brake drums. If on a working surface there are deep risks or excessive ovality, chisel drums on the machine tool.
2. Then on a lathe abrasive fine-grained брусками прошлифуйте drums. It increases durability of overlays and improves uniformity and efficiency of braking. The greatest admissible increase in nominal diameter of a drum (250 mm) after расточки and polishings of 1 mm. Limits of this admission should be observed strictly, durability of a drum, and also efficiency of braking otherwise is broken.
